The need for a rabies vaccination after another bite depends on the time that has elapsed since the full rabies vaccination was given. After the full rabies vaccination is completed the body will produce protective antibodies that effectively kill the rabies virus in the body. The latest guidelines instruct that its effective protection period is 3 months. If the patient is bitten again within 3 months after the vaccination, another rabies vaccination may not be required. If more than 3 months have passed, only a day 0 or 3 booster shot is needed again. If a dog bite occurs after 1 year, the full rabies vaccination is required. After being bitten, the patient needs to treat the wound promptly, wash the wound with soap and water or hydrogen peroxide, rinse it repeatedly with running water, disinfect it with iodophor or alcohol and then dress the wound, pay attention to wound hygiene to prevent infection. The patient should pay attention to the diet, which should be light, no spicy and stimulating food and no alcohol.
