How long you need to wear a brace after ankle surgery

After ankle surgery, a brace is worn for one to three months. The length of time a patient needs to wear a brace varies according to the condition, the patient’s own condition and the treatment.
1. If there is no obvious displacement of the fracture end, obvious ligament and joint capsule tear, the fracture end can form a bony scab about one month after surgery, which will greatly improve the stability of the ankle joint. It is recommended to remove the brace one month after the surgery to do ankle exercises, and then gradually start to do weight-bearing rehabilitation exercises, which can prevent the joint from stiffness.
2. If there is obvious displacement of the fracture end, obvious ligament and joint capsule tear, in order to avoid re-displacement of the fracture by weight-bearing, it is recommended to remove the support for ankle joint exercise and weight-bearing rehabilitation training 3 months after the operation.
After the surgery, the patient’s diet should be as light as possible, do not eat spicy and greasy food. It is recommended that the patient should have a review in time and follow the doctor’s instructions.
