Persistent prostatitis can be treated surgically when many medications are ineffective. The causes of prostatitis are complex, and it is mainly characterized by abnormal urination, pain and discomfort in the pelvic region. There are many medications available for treating prostatitis, such as antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, a-blockers, M-receptor antagonists, and antidepressants. If prostatitis is complicated by abscess or conservative treatment is ineffective, it can be treated by surgery if necessary. Surgical modalities for treating prostatitis include incision and drainage, prostate puncture and drainage, and transurethral resection of the prostate. If there is a periprostatic abscess around the posterior lobe of the prostate, it can be treated by incision and drainage. If the abscess is confined to the prostate, it can be treated by prostate puncture and drainage. Benign prostatic hyperplasia can be treated by transurethral resection of the prostate.
