Nucleus pulposus resorption within six months is generally not true, and there is no clinically accurate evidence to suggest that the nucleus pulposus will retract and resorb within six months.
Some experimental studies have shown that a small number of patients with lumbar disc herniation may experience nucleus pulposus resorption, which generally occurs in the early stages of lumbar disc herniation, i.e., within six months of the onset of the herniation. However, there is no clinical evidence to suggest that the nucleus pulposus will retract and reabsorb within six months. A herniated nucleus pulposus indicates that the annulus fibrosus has ruptured, and the nucleus pulposus will seldom be self-retracted and resorbed.
Therefore, patients with herniated nucleus pulposus are advised to consult a doctor in time, strengthen the muscles of the lower back, follow up with lumbar MRI regularly, and take correct treatment measures if necessary.
