Should I get vaccinated for a bite from my own cat?

If you are bitten by your own cat, you need to be up-to-date on your rabies vaccine if you have a skin bite or are bleeding. Rabies is an acute zoonotic infection caused by the rabies virus, which is usually transmitted from sick animals such as dogs and cats to human beings through saliva in the form of bites. Therefore, if a patient has a skin bite or bleeding, he/she needs to take rabies vaccination in time to avoid infection with rabies virus. Whether you own a cat or a stray cat, it may carry the rabies virus. So when bitten or scratched by an animal, whether domesticated or wild, once there is a skin break, or mucous membrane contact, it should be immediately rinsed repeatedly with water or soapy water and then disinfected with tincture of iodine or alcohol for several times, and rabies vaccine should be injected promptly in accordance with post-exposure immunization procedures.
