Mugwort water should refer to the water boiled with mugwort leaves, and mugwort water bath has the effect of removing dampness and relieving itching.
Mugwort leaves are the dried leaves of Ai, a plant of the Asteraceae family, with pungent, bitter flavor and warm nature; it is slightly poisonous. Attributed to the liver, spleen, kidney meridian. Can be taken internally in a decoction, or into the pill, bulk; external use of pounded velvet for cones or made of moxa moxibustion, or decoction of water, such as fumigation.
Mugwort has the effect of warming menstruation, stopping bleeding, dispersing cold and relieving pain, and dispelling dampness and relieving itching when used externally. It is used in treating hematemesis, epistaxis, metrorrhagia (excessive menstrual flow or more than a few drops), excessive menstruation, foetal leakage (small amount of vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy), hyperemia, cold pain in the abdomen, dysmenorrhea and infertility in the uterus; and externally for treating itching of the skin. Vinegar moxa charcoal warms menstruation and stops bleeding, used for cold bleeding.
