Narrowing of the left pyriform fossa with limited soft tissue density shadow elevation is the description of CT examination report, common diseases include fibroma and lipoma of the pyriform fossa, and may also be parapharyngeal interstitial tumors or hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma and other diseases, can be hanged in the ENT department for further examination, in order to make a clear diagnosis.
1. Fibroma and lipoma of the pyriform fossa: the tumor is composed of fat cells and connective tissue, and when it grows to a certain degree, it can be manifested as submucosal elevation of the pyriform fossa, which compresses the space of the pyriform fossa and narrows it. when CT examination reveals a limited soft tissue density mass in the pyriform fossa, these two common diseases should be considered.
2 Parapharyngeal interstitial tumors: these masses cover a wide range, mainly benign and malignant tumors growing in the parapharyngeal interstitial space, including: paragangliomas, parathyroid tumors, teratomas adenoid cystic carcinomas and so on. During the process of tumor growth and progression, the tumor may bulge or protrude in the pyriform fossa of the affected side, causing pharyngeal discomfort and foreign body sensation, which can be clearly diagnosed by pathological examination.
3. Squamous cell carcinoma of hypopharynx: this disease may have this imaging feature. Early symptoms are foreign body sensation and obstruction in swallowing. With the enlargement of tumor, the surface can be ulcerated, which can cause swallowing pain. In conjunction with endoscopy, fullness of the pyriform fossa and fluid accumulation on the affected side may be observed.
The examination result shows that the left pyriform fossa is narrowed and limited soft tissue density shadow is elevated. It is recommended to go to the ENT department of the hospital in time, complete the examination, clarify the cause of the disease, and carry out standardized treatment under the guidance of the doctor.
