The condition of bloodshot white eyes and eye stools in newborns is caused by two main reasons: first, due to acute conjunctivitis in newborns. If there is acute conjunctivitis, it can cause bloodshot eyes and very large eye stools. The eyes are very itchy and often rubbed involuntarily with the hands. This is mainly caused by viral or bacterial pathogens that infect the newborn’s eyes. In this case, eye drops can be given to improve the situation. For example, tobramycin eye drops or erythromycin ointment can be applied. Second, it is caused by heavy liver heat in newborns. If a newborn baby has heavy liver heat, he or she may also have bloodshot eyes and very heavy eye discharge.
