What is cervicitis

Cervicitis, also known as cervical erosion, is a common disease among women and is also the most commonly mentioned disease in gynecological surveys, and is classified as mild, moderate or severe depending on the size of the “erosion” surface. In fact, the vast majority of “cervicitis” is not a disease, but a physiological manifestation of estrogen, mostly in women of childbearing age, but rarely in pre-pubescent and post-menopausal women due to low estrogen levels. Most cervical erosion is asymptomatic and is detected only after a gynecological examination by a doctor. If cervical erosion is combined with bacterial infection, there is often excessive leucorrhea, odor or back pain. The main purpose of a gynecologist’s examination of the cervix is not whether you have cervicitis, but whether you have precancerous lesions (or endocervical neoplasia) or cervical cancer. Precancerous lesions are screened by shedding cells from the cervix. The commonly used methods are: Pap cytology and liquid-based cytology (TCT). Pap cytology is slightly less accurate, but less expensive and suitable for screening a large number of people, while TCT is the latest method through computerized filming, which is more accurate, but more expensive and not easily accessible. The majority of cervical erosion is a physiological change, after excluding cervical cancer and endocervical neoplasia, in principle, regardless of the mild, moderate or severe cervical erosion can be left untreated, unless there are obvious symptoms, such as leucorrhea, odor, back pain, etc. Treatment is mostly topical suppositories, drug treatment can reduce the above symptoms, but it is difficult to make the cervical erosion surface “heal “For patients with moderate or severe cervical erosion or infertility due to cervical erosion, if you want to treat it, you can use physical therapy such as Bohm light, laser, microwave, ablation, etc., which can be cured in one or two courses. In women who have not had children, after excluding cervical cancer and endocervical neoplasia, simple cervical erosion is best treated after childbirth because a very small number of women may become infertile after cervical physiotherapy due to narrow cervical canal scar isthmus. If cervical cancer or endocervical neoplasia is detected, it is important to follow the doctor’s guidelines for treatment.
