What does Bennett’s fracture mean?

Bennett’s (Bennett’s) fracture is a fracture that occurs at the base of the thumb. It is a common fracture that is primarily caused by direct external force on the patient. The clinical presentation is usually pain at the base of the first metacarpal, swelling, pain on pressure and percussion, inversion of the thumb, and limited movement of the opposite metacarpal. After Bennett’s fracture, if the fracture end is not displaced, it can be treated conservatively with plaster brace or brace fixation. If the fracture end is significantly displaced and the standard of functional repositioning cannot be achieved after closed reduction, surgical treatment can be considered.
