Surgery is not recommended for ossifying myositis right away. Ossifying myositis is not recommended within 6 months of its formation because there is still a possibility of further development. Because surgery is a new trauma to the local area, which can cause excessive local soft tissue stripping, this condition can aggravate the development of ossifying myositis, and a surgery can make it even worse. It is necessary to wait until the localization has matured, at least 12-18 months when X-rays are taken, the localization has matured, the swelling has completely subsided, and the blood alkaline phosphatase is normal before surgery. In the meantime, passive activities need to be reduced and active activities done to the extent that they are pain free, as well as radiotherapy, anti-inflammatory pain and hormones, and localized lysergic injections. Therefore, when osteomyositis occurs, surgery should not be done easily and needs to be evaluated by a doctor to avoid aggravating the condition.
