Since the ear is rich in sensory nerves and is connected to the nerves of neighboring organs, auricular pain is not only a symptom of the ear itself, but may also be a reflex otalgia caused by the diseases of neighboring organs. There are many clinical causes of otalgia, but as far as the lesions of the ear itself are concerned, there are generally the following: 1. Otitis externa: When there is discomfort in the ear, some people like to dig in the ear with their nails and hairpins, which can easily break the skin of the ear canal and cause infection and inflammation. In this case, there is not only ear pain but also bleeding. 2. Boils in the external ear canal: When otitis externa is not treated in time, or when you are old and weak, or have diabetes, or when the skin of the ear canal is impregnated with water for a long time and the resistance of the skin surface is weakened, boils in the ear canal often occur, which will gradually swell and become pus, blocking the ear canal and causing pain. 3. Otitis media: Inflammatory lesions in all or part of the middle ear (including the eustachian tube, tympanic cavity and mastoid airspace) are overwhelmingly non-specific arrangements of inflammation, especially in children. 4. Acute otitis media: The increasing pus in the middle ear cavity during bacterial infection and direct pressure on the pain-sensitive eardrum can cause bouts of pain in the ear, which may be pulsating. 5. Ear herpes: This is related to viral infection and is more common in the auricle. The ear pain caused is like pins and needles or burning, and a few people may also have facial nerve paralysis, hearing loss, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms. Earwax: It is commonly known as “earwax” and is produced by the cerumen glands under the skin of the ear canal. When cerumen accumulates, it can block the ear canal, and hearing can be affected. Once water enters the ear canal, the cerumen will swell and tightly compress the ear canal, causing ear pain. 7.Ear tumor: When a malignant cancer grows in the ear canal or middle ear cavity, as the disease develops, there will be bleeding from the ear canal and hearing loss, and there will also be ear pain of varying degrees. 8.Ear neuralgia: There are more nerves around the ear, so when the noise is too strong and too long or unexplained stimulation, there will often be bouts of ear pain, which usually comes and goes and is often tolerable, but no lesion can be found during the examination.
