Ursodeoxycholic acid tablets are cholagogues that increase the secretion of bile acids and also facilitate the dissolution of cholesterol from stones. This drug is mainly used for the formation of cholesterol-based gallstones, for the treatment of bile-deficient steatorrhea, for the prevention of drug-induced stone formation, and for the treatment of steatorrhea, especially when it occurs after ileal resection. Ursodeoxycholic acid tablets are administered in doses adjusted to kilograms of body weight. Common adverse reactions include constipation, allergy, headache, dizziness, pancreatitis, and tachycardia, among others. Contraindications to ursodeoxycholic acid tablets are if complete biliary obstruction is present and in patients with severe hepatic decompensation.
