How often a gastric tube should be changed depends on the material of the tube and cannot be generalized. Clinically, for patients in long-term coma, food can be injected through the gastric tube, thus providing the body with the necessary energy for metabolism. However, if a gastric tube is left unchanged for a long period of time, it will be easily corroded and stimulated by gastric acid, which will cause the tube to age and fall off easily, and may lead to lung infection and even aspiration. Therefore, the gastric tube must be replaced regularly. At present, it is advocated that the ordinary gastric tube should be replaced once a week and the silicone gastric tube should be replaced once a month, and for the gastric tube made of imported materials, the placement time may be longer. It is recommended to choose high-protein, easy-to-digest semi-liquid food to inject into the gastric tube, and also pay attention to give the patient 1-2 times of oral care every day, and the change of gastric tube should be operated by professional medical personnel to reduce the discomfort.
