What does low MCH mean?

MCH generally refers to the average red blood cell hemoglobin content, and this value is low, indicating that the patient may have anemia. The normal values for MCH are 26.5-31.4 pg for men and 25.3-30.9 pg for women, while the average normal value is 28-32 pg. If the patient’s test result shows a low value in the range of 21-24 pg, it is considered that the patient has simple cell anemia. If the value is low and ranges from 12 to 28 pg, then the patient has microcytic hypochromic anemia. The average red blood cell hemoglobin content is the average amount of hemoglobin contained in each red blood cell. However, if the patient’s examination shows that the value is out of the normal range and is within the range of 33-50pg, it indicates that the patient has macrocytic anemia. Patients are advised to judge their own condition based on the results of the average red blood cell hemoglobin content test under the guidance of a doctor, and to seek timely medical treatment if abnormalities exist.
