What is the rate of advanced blindness in open-angle glaucoma?

There is no definitive data on the rate of blindness in advanced stages of open-angle glaucoma, but the condition can be alleviated and the rate of blindness reduced with prompt treatment.
Patients in advanced stages of open-angle glaucoma may experience a narrowing of the visual field in both eyes, resulting in night blindness and mobility problems, but have good central vision, as if they are looking through a tube, known as a tubular field.
Treatment of open-angle glaucoma focuses on relieving and ending the progression of the disease by lowering the intraocular pressure. Methods include medications such as adrenergic beta-blockers (carteolol hydrochloride, timolol maleate, etc.), prostaglandin derivatives (travoprost, latanoprost, etc.); selective laser trabeculoplasty; and filtration surgery (trabeculectomy, nonpenetrating trabeculectomy, etc.).
Patients with advanced stages of open-angle glaucoma should also go to the hospital in time for treatment, and receive reasonable treatment under the guidance of the doctor in order to alleviate the condition.
