First of all, it is perfectly possible to plan a pregnancy or have a child with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is called chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, and the main clinical and laboratory manifestations are high levels of thyroid-related antibodies, such as thyroid peroxidase antibodies or thyroglobulin antibodies, which are either autoimmune-related or simply a result of being born with high levels of these antibodies. Most people with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis have normal thyroid function levels, and these people can get pregnant, as long as their thyroid function levels are normal during regular follow-up. Some patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis may have low thyroid levels, but these patients can get pregnant as long as they take exogenous thyroid hormones, such as eugenol, on a regular basis to maintain normal levels of thyroid hormones in their bodies.
