Decubitus ulcers, also known as pressure sores, are caused by long-term localized pressure on the patient’s body, which affects blood circulation and leads to tissue necrosis due to a lack of nutrients in the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Decubitus ulcers are a common complication in long-term bedridden patients and can be avoided with proper care. Long-term bedridden patients must turn over regularly to avoid continuous pressure on the same area, and massage the pressure area frequently. Once a bedsore occurs, avoid re-pressure, promote local blood circulation, strengthen wound treatment, and prevent infection. At the initial stage of bedsore, localized tincture of iodine can be applied, and attention should be paid to preventing the skin from drying out, and glycerin or liquid paraffin can be applied in appropriate amount. Small ulcers can be used with topical decubitus ulcer paste, large ulcers must be treated with surgical debridement.
