How to treat stage IV lung cancer

Patients with stage IV lung cancer, also known as advanced lung cancer, have lost the opportunity of surgery. Comprehensive treatments such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy and targeted therapy are often adopted. For patients with advanced lung cancer, if they are in a better condition, systemic chemotherapy is preferred to control the disease. Commonly used regimens include docetaxel + platinum, pemetrexed + platinum, and gemcitabine + platinum. If patients are older and cannot tolerate chemotherapy, they can do genetic testing and choose targeted therapy, which can also receive good results. For patients with advanced lung cancer with brain metastasis and bone metastasis, local radiotherapy is given along with systemic treatment, which can control the disease. For patients with advanced lung cancer pain, oral opioid painkillers are taken to reduce symptoms and relieve the disease. The survival period of advanced lung cancer is generally short, about one to one and a half years on average, and the life expectancy of patients can be prolonged through active and reasonable treatment.
