Patients with mid-stage rectal cancer may live for 3-5 years or even longer, depending on the specific stage of rectal cancer and the patient’s physical examination at the hospital after surgery. Mid-stage rectal cancer includes stage II and stage III, which may or may not have lymph node metastasis, and the prognosis of patients after surgery is completely different for different stages. If there is no lymph node metastasis in stage II rectal cancer, chemotherapy and regular review after surgery, the patient’s survival is very good, and the 5-year survival rate may reach 60%-70%, while in case of stage III rectal cancer, that is, lymph node metastasis, the patient needs chemotherapy after surgery, and if necessary, combined with radiotherapy, and the general 5-year survival rate is about 50%.
