PICC extubation precautions

PICC extubation precautions: First, because the catheter of PICC is relatively long, so before extubation, it must be flushed first. Second, be alert to air embolism and thrombus dislodgement, which may cause pulmonary embolism in patients and affect the risk of life. Never press the puncture point during extubation, and the patient and family must be informed of the risk in advance before extubation to achieve informed consent. Third, the PICC needs to pay attention to see if there is a rupture during the extraction, if there is a rupture is likely to have difficulty in extraction, so before the PICC extraction to the patient to put a tourniquet, the location is the puncture point of the PICC. If there is a rupture during the extraction process, a tourniquet can be taken immediately to block the blood circulation and avoid the catheter from entering the patient’s body and causing injury.
