Submaxillary gland stones are usually not life-threatening, its main clinical manifestations are swelling, pain, and in severe cases, infection may occur, as follows. 1. Swelling and pain: when eating, the submaxillary gland will be enlarged and feel swelling and pain, sometimes the pain is severe like pins and needles, about half an hour after stopping eating, the gland can recover and the pain disappears. In addition, the stone in the duct can produce pressure pain when pressed. 2. Infection: stones can cause secondary infection of the gland, with recurrent swelling and pain, and due to the incomplete envelope of submandibular gland and loose tissue, inflammation can spread and cause infection of submandibular space.
