A special case was recently treated. The patient, a female, visited an external hospital for skin epidermal ulceration and itching and was diagnosed as dermatomyositis. Oral Chinese medicine treatment did not work well, and the herbalist suggested him to go for chest CT, which revealed an occupancy in the left lower lung. He was cured by surgery and the pathology report was squamous cell carcinoma of the left lower lung. This case combined with extra-pulmonary symptoms is medically known as paraneoplastic syndrome, mainly because of the patient’s low immune status. It is also consistent with the TCM principle that the lung governs the skin and hair, so this herbalist is also very smart. Patients like this still need to adjust their immune status after surgery, otherwise it will easily lead to recurrence and metastasis.
