The uterus is located in the lower abdomen behind the pubic symphysis and is adjacent to the organs of the bladder, rectum, vagina, ovaries and fallopian tubes. The uterus is an important female reproductive organ whose main functions are to produce menstruation and to carry a fetus. It is normally located in the lower abdomen behind the pubic symphysis, with the bladder in front, the rectum behind, the lower end connected to the vagina, and the ovaries and fallopian tubes adjacent to it on both sides. The normal uterus is not normally palpable, but only during a gynecologic double examination or ultrasound; in pregnancy or with uterine disease, the uterus may enlarge and extend into the pelvis and abdomen, when it may be palpable by hand. After pregnancy is ruled out, uterine disease should be considered and prompt medical attention is recommended. Women with lower abdominal pain, or menstrual abnormalities, should go to a regular hospital in a timely manner, under the guidance of the doctor to identify the causes, symptomatic treatment, so as not to delay the condition.
