When a baby is born it must be the happiest moment for the whole family, but not all babies are born without a hitch. There is a condition called birthing brachial plexus injury, also known as birth palsy. The main cause of this condition is a large baby or a fetal malposition that affects the delivery during natural childbirth. Parents, especially grandparents, are very anxious and want their babies to recover immediately or get immediate treatment. It is understandable that the family feels this way, but not all parents understand how to deal with it properly. First of all, it is important to realize that birth palsy is not a high-energy injury and that it is possible to recover on its own after a nerve injury, and that less than 5% of children with birth palsy really need surgical treatment. At this stage, we recommend that parents do not need to do any rehabilitation acupuncture and massage at home, because the child cannot speak and express his will to communicate with his parents, and excessive or inappropriate treatment will only bring unnecessary new injuries to the child. This makes follow-up treatment difficult. The recovery of birth palsy depends on the degree of injury. The nerve regeneration ability of the child is very strong, and if the injury is mild, it will definitely recover on its own. If the child is breastfed, the mother can take some neurotrophic drugs, but if the child is artificially fed, there is no need to give the child medication. The first examination after three months is to see if there is a recovery of active elbow flexion, if so, no treatment is needed. In the latter three months of the observation period, medication is needed, and it is best to give the mother medication through breastfeeding to the child. If the child is artificially fed, then the medicine should be crushed and given to the child in formula. This is the basic process of treatment for birth palsy. We hope that this will be helpful to parents of such children.
