Whether to do ultrasound endoscopy after detecting intestinal metaplasia by common gastroscopy cannot be generalized, if it is benign lesion, it is not necessary to do it, but if it is malignant lesion, it is necessary to do ultrasound endoscopy. Ordinary gastroscopy can usually detect intestinal metaplasia, but there is a certain degree of leakage and misdiagnosis, and because intestinal metaplasia has a certain correlation with gastric cancer, therefore, if intestinal metaplasia is detected by ordinary gastroscopy, a pathologic examination will usually be done to clarify the diagnosis. If the result of pathological examination is benign, ultrasonic endoscopy is not necessary, but if the result of pathological examination is malignant, ultrasonic endoscopy is necessary to determine the depth of infiltration of the lesion, the size and other conditions. Intestinal metaplasia, also known as intestinal epithelial metaplasia, refers to the appearance of epithelial cells similar to intestinal mucosa mainly in the gastric mucosa, which is related to gastric cancer to some extent. The disease cannot be completely cured, but its progression can be mitigated by appropriate treatment. In addition, in order to clarify the progress of the disease, gastroscopy and pathologic examination must be done regularly.
