The disease is caused by meningococcal infection and has a high rate of death and disability, occurring mostly in infants, children and the elderly. Patients may present with fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting, and some may also have focal neurologic signs and symptoms, such as hemiparesis, hemianopsia, and speech dysfunction. Patients may also develop signs of meningeal irritation, which are mainly characterized by nuchal rigidity, positive Koenig’s sign, positive Brudzinski’s sign, and so on. Antibacterial treatment is mainly given, and commonly used drugs include cephalosporin antibiotics. At the same time, hormone therapy is applied to patients with severe diseases, and the commonly used drugs in the clinic are dexamethasone. At the same time, patients with increased intracranial pressure should be given to reduce cranial pressure treatment, commonly used drugs are mannitol and glycerol fructose.
