Sodium valproate is widely used in neurology, and one of its familiar roles is as an antiepileptic drug, such as simple or complex akathisia seizures, myoclonic seizures, single or combined medication for persistent status epilepticus, and is used as a first-line drug in the course of antiepileptic treatment. In addition to antiepileptic, it can treat neuralgia, such as the more common neuropathic headache, neuralgia caused after herpes zoster. In addition to these two roles, sodium valproate is also widely used as a mood stabilizer in psychiatric settings such as anxiety and depression, with very good results.
