Prevention of asthma should be preceded by prevention of rhinitis

Current epidemiological data show that the incidence of asthma among patients with allergic rhinitis is 20%-38%, which is significantly higher than that of the general population (2%-5%). The incidence of allergic rhinitis in patients with asthma is 78%, which is much higher than that of the general population (5%-20%); and the treatment of allergic rhinitis can reduce the symptoms of asthma and decrease the incidence of asthma.

Therefore, patients with allergic rhinitis should be more vigilant and should undergo active and effective intervention and treatment and prevent allergic rhinitis from triggering or aggravating asthma. In children with asthma, viral bronchitis can occur if viral-infected allergens are frequently inhaled. The World Health Organization has proposed GINA and ARIA guidelines: to prevent asthma, one should start with proper treatment of rhinitis in order to reduce the incidence of bronchial asthma.
