International Rare Disease Day (IDDD) was initiated by EURORDIS in 2008, which established February 29 as International Rare Disease Day, meaning “rare” once every four years. Since then, countries have agreed to designate the last day of February as the International Rare Disease Day. According to the medical literature, every healthy person carries 5-10 defective genes, and men and women who carry the same defective genes may have a baby with the disease if they marry. Although the probability of meeting is only 1 in 10,000, the probability of having a diseased child is 25% for the family that meets. The Center for Genetic and Prenatal Diagnosis at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University is one of the largest genetic testing facilities for genetic diseases in China and is currently able to test for more than 600 genetic diseases. Hemophilia is the most common hereditary coagulation disorder and includes three types: hemophilia A (HA), hemophilia B (HB) and hemophilia C (HC). HA and HB patients are mostly male, and HC can affect both men and women. Genetic testing can help to confirm the diagnosis of hemophilia, identify the mutation site, and provide fertility guidance to avoid having another child with hemophilia. On International Rare Disease Day, February 29, the Center will offer a free hemophilia genetic test package worth 3900 RMB to 10 hemophiliacs/hemophiliacs at risk who meet one of the following criteria: 1. a clinical diagnosis of hemophilia; 2. a history of having a child with hemophilia, with a prior certificate for the free test; 3. a clinical diagnosis of suspected hemophilia by a clinician; 4. a history of having a child with hemophilia, with a prior certificate for the free test 3. suspected hemophiliacs as diagnosed by clinicians.
