The difference between fried Shenquan and burnt Shenquan is mainly manifested in the concoction method, form and efficacy. 1. Concocting method: both are stir-fried over a moderate fire, and the stir-fried Shenqu is stir-fried until the surface shows a slight yellow color, while the burnt Shenqu should be stir-fried until the surface shows a burnt yellow color. 2. Morphology: both are similar to a square, the main difference lies in the surface color and smell, the surface of fried Shenqu is slightly yellow, similar to a square block of earth, while the surface of burnt Shenqu is burnt yellow or even black, similar to the fire coals that are not fully carbonized. 3. Efficacy: Fried Shenqu focuses on strengthening the spleen and eliminating food, and is applied to distension of the epigastrium (abdomen) and loss of appetite; while Jiao Shenqu focuses on the treatment of dietary stagnation. As traditional Chinese medicines, Fried Shenqu and Jiao Shenqu should be used under the guidance of a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner to avoid harm caused by blind use.
