What does DM mean in medical terms

DM stands for Diabetes Mellitus in medical terms. DM is the abbreviation of Diabetes Mellitus, which means diabetes mellitus, a series of clinical symptoms caused by disorders of blood glucose metabolism in the body, mainly due to insufficient insulin secretion or insulin resistance. Diabetes mellitus is divided into four types: type 1 diabetes mellitus, type 2 diabetes mellitus, other special types of diabetes mellitus, and gestational diabetes mellitus. The main clinical manifestations are “three more and one less”, i.e., more drinking, more eating, more urination, and weight loss. Advanced diabetes can lead to many complications, including diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic neuropathy and diabetic foot. Therefore controlling blood sugar is crucial for diabetics. If diabetes is suspected, it is recommended to seek medical attention for the appropriate tests and treatment as prescribed by the doctor.
