How long does it take for children to recover from conjunctivitis

The recovery time for children with conjunctivitis varies by cause, such as allergic conjunctivitis, which may recover in about 3 days; bacterial conjunctivitis, which takes about 7 days to heal; and viral conjunctivitis, which takes about 2 weeks to recover. Conjunctivitis can cause eye congestion and increased discharge, mainly manifested as red eyes, itchy eyes, a distinct foreign body sensation, burning sensation, and accompanied by mucus or watery discharge, requiring topical treatment with antiviral and anti-inflammatory eye drops, such as acyclovir and ofloxacin eye drops alternately. In the case of allergic conjunctivitis, the key to its treatment is avoidance of allergens. If, after the above treatment, the child’s conjunctivitis is not cured, he or she needs to go to the ophthalmology department in a timely manner to complete relevant examinations and decide on further treatment according to the condition. It is recommended that children wash their hands regularly, pay attention to eye hygiene, use separate basins and towels to avoid cross-infection, and also pay attention to rest, eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, maintain a balanced nutrition, and avoid catching a cold.
