Can diabetics breastfeed?

Diabetic patients can breastfeed normally, provided that the patient’s blood glucose control is stable and no oral hypoglycemic drugs are taken. If the diabetic patient’s blood glucose control is stable and no oral hypoglycemic drugs are taken, the patient can breastfeed normally through diet control and exercise to make the blood glucose control reach the standard. If the diabetic patient’s blood sugar control does not meet the standard, he/she should stop taking oral hypoglycemic drugs in time and switch to insulin to control blood sugar so that he/she can breastfeed normally after the blood sugar control reaches the standard. It is not recommended for diabetic patients to take oral hypoglycemic drugs during breastfeeding, because oral hypoglycemic drugs can be secreted through breast milk and lead to a significant increase in the risk of hypoglycemia in newborns and other adverse reactions, so diabetic patients who are breastfeeding need to adjust their glucose-lowering program in a timely manner according to their blood sugar control, stop taking oral hypoglycemic drugs and switch to insulin to control blood sugar so that they can breastfeed normally after their blood sugar control reaches the standard.
