Two days ago, I was chatting with a patient, Zhang (our surgery is local anesthesia, so the patient is fully awake, so talking to them can ease their tension), and Zhang said, “I’ve had this hernia for more than 10 years, but I’ve been afraid to come for the surgery, and when I asked him why, he said he was afraid of the pain. I said, “Well, look at those old men in the ward who were discharged the next day after the surgery, or even went home the same day, which one cried out for pain and couldn’t walk? Yes, if I had known this, I would have come to do the surgery, let me suffer for so many years in vain. After hearing these words, I actually felt quite uncomfortable in my heart. “Hernia is not a serious disease, but it is very inconvenient, and in some cases painful, to live with a hernia. What we usually call “hernia” is “inguinal hernia”, which is a common disease among elderly men, but the percentage of those who really come to the hospital for treatment is very small. Some of them feel that it does not hurt and are too lazy to go to the hospital; some of them are shy and find it difficult to talk to their families; and some even think that they will get better slowly. But they don’t know that hernias don’t get better on their own, they get worse and worse, and they can even kill people! If one day the intestines get stuck and can’t return, causing intestinal ischemia and necrosis over time, it is really life-threatening, and it is necessary to rush to the hospital in time for emergency surgery, which not only makes the patient suffer, but also increases the difficulty and risk of surgery, prolongs the time of surgery, increases the incidence of surgical complications, and costs more in medicine, etc. …… There is a hundred harm but not a benefit! And what is the pain? Old Zhang said the pain after the hernia surgery is really old history. In the past, the hernia surgery did hurt, and it was really not a scare when you couldn’t get off the ground for a week, couldn’t straighten your back and couldn’t walk. But that is caused by the former surgical method, the former surgical method is to sew up the hole on your belly directly, the tension received by the suture area is very large, as if someone has been pulling your belly, that certainly hurts, we do not do so long ago now hernia surgery, now ah, is “patching”, like patching a car tire Nowadays, we use a hernia patch (equivalent to a patch) to fill the hole in your belly. There is no tension at all, so how do you think you can’t stand up straight and can’t go down? To say that it hurts, it is a little painful surgical incision, but it will not have much impact on your normal life. Therefore, I advise patients with hernia like Zhang to go to the hospital as soon as possible, don’t take hernia seriously, don’t worry about the post-operative pain, and don’t lose a lot because of the smallness.
