  Respiratory medicine: Most cough patients will first consult a respiratory physician, and rightly so, because as a specialist respiratory physician you should be fully aware of the various causes of cough and how to examine and treat them.
Even if the cause of your cough is not a respiratory disease, a respiratory specialist will be able to advise you appropriately, so we believe that patients should visit a respiratory specialist if they do not yet know what is causing their cough. A 24-hour esophageal pH test may be useful for diagnosis.  Psychological clinic: If the cough is accompanied by chest tightness or repeated sighs, or if the cough is associated with recent mental stress such as exams or work stress, and many tests do not reveal any abnormalities, some people may have a cough related to psychological factors, and the cough may be relieved when they are distracted.  Neurology: Some patients with cough may experience syncope during the coughing process.
Special care should be taken at this time to prevent falls during syncope. You can certainly see a neurologist when you have syncope, but when the neurologist determines that your syncope is caused by coughing, you should also be seeing a respiratory medicine physician.
