Most babies with mild mental retardation can be recovered. Because of the baby’s young age, the brain’s plasticity is very strong, after early intervention, such as acupuncture, physical therapy, language training, fine motor training, whole brain development and other integrated rehabilitation treatment, will receive obvious results, and the younger the age, the better the results. Mental retardation is mostly seen in the presence of high-risk factors before, during or after birth, such as preterm birth, low birth weight, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, hypoglycemia, multiple births, in vitro fertilization, etc., or with some genetic metabolic as well as chromosomal disorders, etc., which can lead to mental retardation. Therefore, while carrying out comprehensive intellectual rehabilitation, the cause of the disease should be found as early as possible and appropriate treatment should be given.
