Depakene is generically known as Sodium Valproate Extended-Release Tablets and is used for the treatment of epilepsy. The daily dose of this product is divided into 1 or 2 doses, which can be taken after i.e. breakfast and/or dinner if it is necessary to minimize gastrointestinal irritation. Sodium valproate extended-release tablets are used for the treatment of generalized epilepsy, including myoclonic seizures, apoplectic seizures, and tonic clonic seizures. It is also used for partial epilepsy, including simple partial seizures, etc. To minimize irritation of the gastrointestinal tract, it is recommended to take the tablets with meals, and the daily dose may be divided into 1 or 2 doses, i.e., after breakfast and dinner. In cases where epilepsy has been well controlled, once daily dosing may be considered. Adverse reactions to this product include gastrointestinal reactions such as nausea and vomiting. This product is contraindicated in people who are allergic to valproate, bivalproate, valproic acid, or any of the ingredients in this product, patients with acute hepatitis, and patients with chronic hepatitis.
