There are types of enemas such as non-retention enemas, retention enemas, and barium enemas. Unpreserved enemas use warm saline, soapy water, and corkscrew to aid in defecation; preserved enemas use some therapeutic medications; and barium enemas use a barium sulfate suspension to perform an enema, followed by an X-ray examination.
