Does rib cartilage regenerate?

Rib cartilage does not regenerate. Rib cartilage is a highly differentiated tissue in the human body. This tissue, once damaged or missing, is very difficult to heal and will not regenerate. In the human body, the more differentiated the tissue cells, the worse their ability to heal and regenerate, while the less differentiated the cells, the better their ability to regenerate. For example, stem cells, which have a very low degree of differentiation, have a very high regenerative capacity and have the potential to turn into other cells. On the other hand, chondrocytes, which are highly differentiated, have a very poor regenerative and proliferative capacity, and the rib cartilage will not regenerate. Once the rib cartilage is damaged or missing, the impact on the human body is not particularly significant. The above mentioned damage to the costal cartilage will reduce the local stability, but due to the dense surrounding rows of other costal cartilage and ribs, the stability of the thorax as a whole will not be affected to a particularly large extent.
