Are frequent ultrasounds for children harmful to the body?

Patient: My son is nine years old and has had an ultrasound once a year on average since he was two years old. He has had seven ultrasounds, three for hernia, one for kidney, and three for liver, gallbladder and spleen. If so, what can be done to minimize the harm. I see that the internet mostly talks about fetuses, but not about children, so I would appreciate your help. Thank you! Wenkun Bai, Ultrasound Clinic, Shandong Qianfo Mountain Hospital: The principle of ultrasound examination is to use sound waves that exceed the hearing threshold of the human ear and to image the reflected sound waves by computer processing. Ultrasound is currently one of the four major diagnostic imaging tools for clinical applications. Ultrasound has the advantages of no radiation, repeatability, convenience and low cost compared to radiological examinations, so general ultrasound examinations are not harmful to the human body. Just look at the doctor who does the ultrasound examination without the same protection as the radiologist, you can see that ultrasound is not damaging. Patient: Thank you for your explanation, that reassures me. That means it won’t harm your body even if you do it so many times, right? I’m worried about the age of my child, because I’ve had so many ultrasounds, and I’ve had several radiological exams, and I’m worried about the side effects on my child. Thank you again! Shandong Qianfo Mountain Hospital Ultrasound Clinic Bai Wenkun: You’re welcome Patient: I also want to ask a question: is that I see online that ultra-dose ultrasound is harmful to the human body, “According to foreign experts on the study found that routine ultrasound examination more than 3 times, the fetus will be born with a lower weight, until about 5 years old to recover to the level of control children; there is a small number of children subjected to ultrasound incidence in the fetal period, dyslexia. Studies have found that high doses of ultrasound incidence cause adverse effects such as increased cellular chromosome interchange and decreased oxygen-carrying capacity of red blood cells.” This is a quote I came across. I would like to ask what is considered an overdose? Is it cumulative like x-ray? So are these 7 times for my child an overdose? Thanks, I look forward to your reply! The ultrasound clinic of Shandong Qianfo Mountain Hospital, Bai Wenkun: The ultrasound dose is not cumulative because of the rapid self-renewal of the human body cells. In addition, the so-called “harmful” ultrasound to the human body, the clinical application is generally in the field of ultrasound therapy, the ultrasound parameters such as frequency, power, sound field distribution and our usual examination of the ultrasound application parameters are not the same, ultrasound therapy is the current trend and frontier of ultrasound development, currently mainly used in the treatment of tumors. Ultrasound currently used for diagnostic examinations is safe. Patient: That means my child will not be negatively affected, right? Thank you! Wenkun Bai, Ultrasound Clinic, Shandong Qianfo Mountain Hospital: You are welcome. I wish you and your child good health and happiness.
