How long does it usually take for a fifth metatarsal base fracture to heal?

Fifth metatarsal base fractures typically take about 2 months to heal. The length of time it takes for a patient to heal varies depending on the condition, the patient’s own condition, and the type of treatment.
Fifth metatarsal base fractures are categorized according to the level of the fracture line as small avulsion fractures and large fractures above the metatarsal tuberosity, also called Jones fractures, which are not as difficult to treat.
1. A small avulsion fracture will heal quickly if the patient is braced in a cast or brace for 4 to 6 weeks.
2. In the case of a Jones fracture, there is a higher percentage of non-union and surgical intervention is more often the treatment of choice. Surgical intervention takes a little longer because of the need to rehabilitate the local wound and internal fixation after surgery, and the patient has to get down to the ground relatively late, which may take up to 1~2 months in this case.
Patients can use medications such as bone peptide tablets to promote fracture healing. They should seek timely medical attention, follow the doctor’s instructions, have regular review, and perform rehabilitation training and activities under the doctor’s guidance.
