If the test is negative and the inflammation has disappeared to the naked eye, the patient can resume sexual intercourse. If the test is still positive, treatment must be continued and, in addition, the sexual partner should be advised to undergo treatment at the same time. However, if self-control is not possible, condoms must be used to prevent cross-infection.
