In adults, laryngeal oedema may present with a sore throat, hoarseness and breathlessness, but is usually not self-diagnostic and requires specialist examination for diagnosis. In children with laryngeal oedema, there may be sudden hoarseness, abnormal coughing and inspiratory sounds, and even breathing difficulties and crying due to their discomfort.
