More than 1,000 delegates from more than 60 countries and regions, including Asia, Europe and North America, participated in this event, which represents the highest medical level of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery in Asia. This annual meeting is a very important continuing education program jointly organized by the American Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery (AATS) and the Asian Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (ASCVTS). Prof. Qi Miao of the Department of Cardiac Surgery gave a presentation on “Role of Extensive Valve Repair in Active Mitral Endocarditis”, which was highly recognized by the delegates with the participation of many doctors and their active questions. The Asian Society of Cardiovascular Surgery (ASCVTS), founded in 1992, is the largest professional academic society in Asia and maintains close contact with cardiothoracic vascular professional societies in Europe and the United States, with members in all Asian countries. The Council consists of experts and scholars from Asian countries who have made outstanding contributions to the field of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. The aim of the society is “to promote cutting-edge scientific research and clinical research in cardiothoracic vascular surgery, and to promote exchanges in this specialty through academic conferences and contacts between cardiothoracic vascular specialists”. In recent years, relying on the comprehensive advantages of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, the Department of Cardiac Surgery of PUMC has made significant breakthroughs in the diagnosis and treatment of some difficult and rare diseases while ensuring the completion of routine surgeries with high quality, and the academic influence of the industry has been gradually improved, and the Department has made its presence known in the national academic conferences for many times. This is the first time for Prof. Miao Qi to present at an international specialty annual meeting. These achievements show the remarkable progress in clinical research made by the Department of Cardiac Surgery in recent years, and greatly enhance the reputation of our hospital in the field of cardiac surgery in Asia and even in the international arena.
