In the early stage of neonatal brachial plexus nerve injury and the condition is mild, conservative treatment can be adopted, including positional immobilization, medication and other treatments, etc. If the condition is still not recovered at 6 months, surgery needs to be considered.
1. Positional immobilization: it needs to be operated by doctors and is applicable to newborns in the first week after birth, using splints to fix the upper limb in the position of abduction, external rotation, and elbow flexion of the forearm.
2. Drug therapy: newborns with brachial plexus nerve injury need to be given according to the doctor’s instructions, the appropriate nutritional nerve drugs, such as glutamine, vitamin B12, gangliosides and so on. Remember to know the dosage and precautions of the drugs to ensure the safety of the drugs.
3. Surgery: If the condition has not recovered after 6 months, or if the condition is serious, the doctor should choose simple nerve release surgery, nerve anastomosis or grafting surgery or nerve transposition surgery according to the scope, degree and nature of the nerve damage of the newborn, so as to improve the symptoms as soon as possible.
4. Other treatments: 7~10 days after the birth of the newborn, physiotherapy treatment and passive exercise can be carried out appropriately to prevent muscle atrophy of the newborn.
Neonatal brachial plexus nerve injury suggests that parents should take their newborns to the hospital as soon as possible, and follow the doctor’s advice to give symptomatic treatment to avoid delaying the condition. The above medications should be used in accordance with medical advice.
