Symptoms of pituitary enlargement

The early symptoms of pituitary enlargement are headache and endocrine abnormalities, headache accounts for 2/3 of patients. headache is mainly located in the posterior orbit, forehead and both temporal areas, and may be intermittent in mild course, mainly due to the direct stimulation of tumor growth, which makes the saddle diaphragm compressed and causes pain. When the tumor breaks through the saddle diaphragm and grows intracranially, the pain may be relieved for a short time. Tumors that break through the saddle diaphragm and compress the optic nerve may show changes in vision and visual field, and may also cause symptoms of obstructive hydrocephalus. Endocrine abnormalities are mainly manifested as hormonal abnormalities, such as in patients with increased prolactin, female patients may experience amenorrhea, lactation, infertility and sterility. Patients with increased levels of thyroid stimulating hormone may cause symptoms of hyperthyroidism, patients with increased levels of adrenocorticotropic hormone may develop symptoms such as increased cortisol levels, Cushing’s syndrome, and centripetal obesity, patients with excessive growth hormone may develop acromegaly, and patients with growth hormone adenoma during the growth phase may develop gigantism, etc.
