The early symptoms of pituitary enlargement are mainly headache and signs of endocrine hyperfunction. Headache accounts for about 2/3 of patients, and the pain is mainly located in the retro-orbital, forehead and bilateral temporal areas with milder degree and intermittent episodes, mainly due to direct stimulation by the tumor, or it may be caused by the increased pressure in the saddle, which causes pressure on the pituitary dural sac and saddle septum. Secondly, there can be manifestations of endocrine hormone hypersecretion, mainly depending on the characteristics of its adenoma type, such as lactogenic adenoma, which in women can manifest as increased prolactin and decreased estrogen, thus causing clinical features such as amenorrhea, breast overflow and infertility, while in men it can manifest as headache, sexual dysfunction, mental abnormalities, hair loss, etc. Pituitary thyrotropic hormone adenoma, in its early stages, can manifest as enlarged thyroid gland and symptoms of hyperthyroidism.
