Breast cystic nodules are clinically treated symptomatically, with Xiao Jin Wan and Xiao Yi San being used to relieve the liver and regulate qi, harmonize the Chong Ren and adjust ovarian function. For patients with limited cystic breast hyperplasia, they should be rechecked one week to ten days after their menstruation. If the patient’s cystic breast lump softens, shrinks or disappears, he/she can continue to observe and take oral Chinese medicine. However, it is important to note that breast cancer and cystic breast nodules, may co-exist. For early detection of possible breast cancer, patients should be instructed to undergo a review every 2-3 months. If focal lesions are found to have malignant potential during review or observation, they should be surgically removed in a timely manner and pathologic examination should be performed, and relevant treatment should be carried out according to the results of the pathologic examination. If the result of pathological examination is benign, the patient can continue to take oral Chinese medicine and have regular follow-up. If the result of pathological examination is breast cancer, surgical excision is needed.
