When is the safe period?

The safe period for women can generally be estimated by the regularity of the menstrual cycle, measurement of basal body temperature and cervical mucus examination, but it should be noted that there is no absolute safe period.
1. Regular menstrual cycle: For women with regular menstrual cycles, the safe period can be calculated according to the time of the menstrual cycle and the time of ovulation. Generally speaking, a woman’s menstrual cycle lasts from 21 to 35 days, and the day of ovulation is about 14 days before the next menstrual period. The five days before and the four days after the day of ovulation are called the ovulation period, and all the times other than the ovulation period and the menstruation period belong to the safe period.
This method is not recommended for women with irregular menstrual cycles.
2. Measurement of basal body temperature: Women with irregular menstrual cycles can determine the safe period by measuring the basal body temperature, which can determine the level of progesterone in women. If ovulation occurs during normal menstruation, the basal body temperature will be biphasic, which can be used to determine the date of ovulation for a woman is 4 to 5 days before and after ovulation, except for menstruation and ovulation, the rest of the time is usually the safe period.
3. Cervical mucus examination: cervical mucus is a kind of vaginal secretion, women in the ovulation cervical mucus began to increase, the color is clear and smooth, similar to egg white. After ovulation, the cervical mucus begins to thicken or may disappear completely.
Women need to be aware that the safe period is not 100% safe, and if stimulated by sexual excitement during the safe period, it may lead to abnormal ovulation, thus resulting in unwanted pregnancy, so the use of safe period contraception is not reliable.
